Ya gotta love degens... ya just got to...
Last night I went to the Commerce and was having a grand old time playing some cards when a funny thing happened. The set up was this. With 15k and Ah3h I min raised to 40 utg+3 in a 10 20 game. Got 2 callers when the Button (4,500) made it 540 to go. It seemed fishy. At this point I made a bad read (he had kings) and put him on a steal. He was smart, young, and I don't know... for some reason I just didn't believe him. I decided to call out of position with my Ah3h and planned on chk raising his inevitable sure c-bet and win the hand by re-stealing his steal. (By the way, this is exactly how to build one of those dangerous stupid holes I sometimes talk about..... fwiw). I met him later by the way. The fella with Kings is Lee.
Anyway, the flop comes Ad 5d 4h. (And being the genius I am thought for a second that I had Ah5h for two pair. But luckily I have the habit of always dbl chking my hands. I notice that I have Ah3h. Now that I have connected I decide to just chk call. He bets 1200, I call. The turn is the Qd, I check, he checks.. the river is a blank. We both check and I win the hand. Whatever. Wow, I played like a donk, made a horrible read, won the pot and got off scott free.
After the hand ended the player to my left (unnamed to protect the innocent) asked me if he thought he should have called the additional 500 with the Ad Jd. And being the space cadet that I am I forgot to tell him that the Ad was on the flop. By the time I remembered this, the table banter had moved on and the hand was forgotten. An hour later this same player pondered out loud - wishing he had called the 500 with his AdJd. And now at this late juncture I decided I would correct him. When I did, the story began.
And here is where the story starts.
He was so confident that the card was the Ac that he offered a bet. My Ad to his Ac for 500. Also the loser will pay the floor man a 100 toke (the floor guy will have to go thru the bs to talk to whoever in the video room). While the floor is off trying to get the suit of the ace Lee (kings) volunteers that he still remembered the flop and agrees with me as well. Bayes theorem kicks in. Confidence being stronger now I offer a larger bet. I endup paying him 500 to have the honor of a 2000 bet. (or 2500 to 1500) - 60 40 when I think I am hovering at about 90%. Not a bad bet! Then the buzz kill. The floor's reply was that wanting to know the flop - bet or not - is not enough to warrant a tape check. Arghghg. I feel like I have had money just slip thru my fingers. Arghghghg.
So now the Ac guy tells the floor, that we don't really need to know the suit, but were only oddly curious about that. He continues, that the real issue was about a 1000 dollar chip. That we can't figure out who it belongs to and that it was during this hand where the confusion came it... "was the chip mine or phil's, he asks". This is of course all a load of malarky, but he ships it all onto the floor guy as mr ace of clubs is pointedly deteremined. Well, he can't seem to get this camera thing rolling, when next he calls David Mosikian!!!
David is one of the massive King Pins of the Commerce Poker room, he is at home trying to have some time off, when one of his customers (not me....I think this is all mad and have given up on the bet a while ago) is calling him AT HOME and trying to get him to make some calls and get them to rewind to about 2 hrs ago and look at this flop. Next thing I know the phone is being handed to me and I am on the phone with David. Of course I apologize to David and assure him that we are all fine.
Anyway, I was just astonished at how tenacious this player was found the whole thing hilarious. Only a fellow degen would go to such extremes to try and resolve a bet. It would have made for some real entertainment had the video gods somehow loosened up at the last moment. If he was given the truth about the suit of that ace. (Assuming it was the Ad as Lee and I suspected it was.)
He tried so hard working all the way up the power ladder only to be saved by the beuracratic slog that is the video room.
If there is a moral it might be this. Sometimes beuracracy can save a man from his ownself.
Anyway...
Later

The cold is worse now and I’m drinking Theraflu. The stuff makes me drowsy so it didn’t help me win a seat to the PCA qualifier last night. Shock! Got sucked out 3 times. Shock! Spent the day watching dvds. Watched Bowling For Columbine and Shattered Glass. 2 down, 12 to go. The skies look dreary and I really hope it rains soon! We need it!
Will head to Vega$ this weekend to join the gang and hopefully play some sats at Bellagio for the 5 Diamond. Planning my 2010 schedule too. Gonna sign up fer some tennis classes. I miss playing. May sign up for a Business Chinese class too to get my mind workin’ again.
Told lil sis we need to start a book club. I am starting with A Year in Provence and Uncle Tom’s Cabin. Purchased both at the Newport Beach Library for 50 cents each. I love to read travel book memoirs, prolly cuz I wanna write one. Hoping we can get Anita and Tracey to join the book club and it’ll be a good start. I recommend reading Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert if y’all enjoy travel memoirs. It’s a quick read too. Fun stuff. I read it right before going to Bali earlier this year and it made my trip even more exciting.
Anyway, gonna go grab some lunch, pop in another dvd and chill til the next PCA qualifier in a few hours. Good luck to y’all!

It turns out that if you leave your xbox on for 50 hrs straight you just might melt the thing. And that is what I did. Smelled just like burnt plastic. Nasty.
Luckily the tivo is fixed now... so I can shift my attention from weapon upgrades on Call of Duty 2 Modern Warfare... back to the WSOP ESPN 2009 coverage. I just might finish it all up before the December lunacy in Vegas rolls in.
A curious thing.... there are no direct flights from Burbank or LAX to San Diego. You either fly to SD thru Vegas... or you drive to Long Beach and fly from there. I have been to SD about 10 times in the last 4 years and never once did I know this. (I always was either driving from LA or flying from Vegas). Some of my buddies organized a bigger than usual game at the Palomar Card Club (2724 El Cajon Blvd) (25 50 w 200 dead ante from bb, and 300 for winning with duece seven from each player, with a 20k buy in) and I guess they are having it again tomorrow night. Heavy sigh. I hear there were some sick pots. But alas, I was not there to see them because I just did not feel like making the drive. Ho hum.
Anyway... off to bed. Gnight.

Black Friday is total madness.
Yes, it took 4 days to recover from my Thanksgiving foodfest. There was so much food this weekend and the leftovers tasted better! I am blessed.
Black Friday was fun. Went to observe the mayhem and it was kool to see all the fools lining up to buy $3 slow cookers, toasters, coffeemakers, etc. Thanks to all for making my Target stock rise by waking up at 4am and standing in neverending lines. Hope you got what you waited for. I ended up going shopping later that evening and picked up some kool games: Fallout 3, Resident Evil 5, Bioshock, Deadrising, and the Sega Genesis Collection. I love all the survival horror games and I’ve discovered this is the best way to get off tilt. No more broken laptops and wireless mice problems fer me. Just lots of shooting and zombie killing now. Left For Dead 2 is my current favorite right now and it’s so much fun playing online with family and friends. Before I know it, hours have passed and I still can’t put my controller down.
On Sunday I played another PCA qualifier and janked out in 27th place. My AK c vs. QJ off got outflopped. So frustrating. Gonna try it again this Sunday and maybe 3rd time’s a charm?! We’ll see… but the Bahamas beach is looking cold. Just need hands to hold. Please, Lady Luck, let the home team win!
The gang’s gonna be in Vega$ on Thursday for the 5 Diamond at Bellagio but I’m debating about going out there now as I’ve come down with a cold and I’m feeling miserable. Would like to see and hang out with everybody, though. But fer some reason, I am content in SoCal right now just blasting away at zombies. I also need to make some new jewelry for an upcoming holiday boutique martini party at BFF’s place. Yes, I not only enjoy killing zombies but also enjoy stringing beautiful Swarovski crystals into masterpiece necklaces, bracelets, and earrings. Go figure.
Spoke to lil sis a coupla nights ago and she’s gonna be filming a doc for the UIGEA while she’s in Vega$ these next 2 weeks. Will be kool to see her on film with all the other pros. I should jet over to Vega$ just to spend some time with her. Haven’t seen her fer a coupla months and we’re all supposed to see New Moon and go to Naked Fish and Tea Station too. Hmm, will decide later this week…
I think fer now in my sick state, I’m just gonna rest easy and catch up on my movies. I have a stack of dvds I borrowed from bro months ago…time to sip the chamomile and watch em all.
