Even by poker movie standards, Deal is a bad beat.
I just got done watching the poker movie “Deal” which stars Burt Reynolds and Shannon Elizabeth. I’ve seen some crappy poker movies in my time, but that one might just take the cake. It was cool to see cameos by some of poker’s biggest names though, like Phil Laak, Antonio Esfandiari, and Jennifer Tilly. Although I may have wasted my time with that flick, I did get to see Iron Man 2 and I was not disappointed. I’m kind of a comic book geek anyway, but I highly recommend it.
I’m getting really excited about the World Series of Poker. I will be leaving Wisconsin on May 22 and heading to Vegas. I plan on arriving a few days early to get some good playing time in before working my ass off for Poker News. I’m really looking forward to the opportunity but know I will be working my ass off. The WSOP can be a major grind not only for players, but for reporters as well. I think the average day for a reporter is about 14 hours. Regardless, I can’t think of anything I’d rather be doing this summer and actually getting paid.
Sunglasses seem to be a hot topic of discussion in the poker forums. Specifically, Daniel Negreanu has suggested that sunglasses should be banned from the poker table because they make it easier to spot marked cards, poker is a human game, and it’s better for TV. In fact, the “Big Game” which will air on Fox (Laak will be playing) has banned sunglasses for their format. I must admit that I often wear sunglasses while playing and don’t think that they should be banned from poker. I don’t mind if an occasional tournament or format bans them, but such a regulation shouldn’t be universally applied (especially at the WSOP). I wear sunglasses at the table for two main reasons. First, I don’t always pay attention to what’s going on at the table (sometimes I’m daydreaming or reading a book) and I don’t want my opponents to know if I’m slacking or looking at the action. Second, I don’t want my opponents to know what I’m looking at when I’m playing. For example, if I am trying to get a read on someone I might concentrate on watching their eyes or their hands. If my opponent knows, they will be better equipped to fix their tells. On top of this all, I like the fact that wearing sunglasses gives me options. I don’t always wear them, so sometimes when I put them down players assume I’m bluffing and pay me off. Personally, I feel a sunglasses ban would deeply cut my poker profits. Either way, it should be interesting to see how the debate pans out.

I’ve been away for a while cuz I’ve been busy watching Kobe and Netflix. Finally joined it and I’m getting my money’s worth. Holy hell! Why didn’t I join Netflix sooner?! If I knew you could watch pretty much anything, anytime, I would’ve joined a long time ago. So besides my blu-ray deliveries, I stream stuff on my 360 so I can watch it all anytime. Kool!
Two days ago The Passing came out for L4D2! This new campaign add-on is so much fun!! Mixes the original L4D characters with the new ones. Fun stuff. In fact, gonna jump on later and play with some friends.
As for poker, what a joke. I’ve been spending a lot of time online with mixed results. Just finished 69th out of 610 in another donkament to pass the time. A little cash made. Jank. So, I was looking at the next 3 months and planning my WSOP. Can’t wait. Gonna spend a lotta time at the Rio in June. Every year, the WSOP Ladies’ Event happens to fall right around my birthday, so I’m gonna bank on some birthday luck again to go deep this year. Last year, I only got to day 2 and finished on the bubble. Man, Bubble Bitch is the absolute worst! So jank. Also gonna play in a slew of other events. It’s great to have a boss that allows me to play poker! LOL I can take off whenever I want. Seriously. My boss knows I love to play and she even encourages me to play more. Amazing! I am such a luckbox! Anyway, I’m excited to take a break from Corporate America this summer to get back to grinding with all the other foolios.
Some pals are in flight right now to Monte Carlo for the EPT Grand Final. I swear one day I will make it over there. Just not this time around…again. Oh well, with all the volcanic ash floating around, who wants to be stuck in Europe anyway?! HA! Besides, it’s Kobe time! I love watching the playoffs. I have a couple of prop bets that it’s gonna be a Lakers vs Celtics FINALS this year. Yes, many think I’m wack, but just look at them Green fools now! LeBron ain’t going. Sorry Cleveland. More importantly, did y’all notice that the Spurs may have the only starting lineup with no tattoos on their arms? Yes, as a lady, I notice these things. You think I actually watch basketball for the love of the game? Bwahahaha…no, it’s all the fine guys and those naked arms! But most of all, it’s my Kobe. Hmm, hmm, delicious! Now that’s what you call hot chocolate! LOL
Now for some exciting news…I am planning a trip back to the muthaland with sis and Boogs! Prolly late September for a coupla weeks. They just opened 2 new casinos there and I wanna see what kind of action they got goin’ on down there! And I can’t wait to eat!! I am on a major diet for the next 4 months (all summer) to get ready for Singapore again! Cuz all I wanna do is eat! We’re also gonna take a side trip to Malacca, Malaysia. This is my momma’s birthplace and my sister and I wanna find our roots. I also wanna find some bomb ass Nonya and Peranakan cuisine!! The food of my people!! Best food in the world!
Anyway, I will start blogging more now that my new job is starting to slow down as I get used to it. There’s still a lot to learn, but I am open to the challenge. It’s a good job. Especially with the janky economy, I am fortunate to be working again as millions are still stuck in the unemployment line. Can’t beat the convenience either. My office is right down the street from the house. What a score! Amazing! No more traffic! I am the biggest luckbox around.
Ok, gonna root fer my Lakers now cuz their dumb asses are getting pummeled by OKC right now! Damn, I knew OKC was gonna give them trouble. They are gonna be a great team in a coupla years. Basketball playoffs rule!

I made a 24 hour trip to Vegas so my family can spend the week for free at the Palazzo. It was good to check up on the condo too. Same ole, same ole. Spent the evening sitting on the couch looking around the room wondering if it is worth keeping. Like the rest of America, my condo is one of the millions of underwater mortgages that is begging for mercy from BofA, also known as the Great Satan. I should hear from Satan any day now regarding a loan mod and will decide if I should continue to sell my soul to him.
Had dinner at Naked Fish with XTracey and Pearljammer and we enjoyed some of their famous sushi rolls. Yum! Spent some time at the Ballys tables and it was nice to see my dealer friends again. But it sure sucked losing $500 last night. Worst beat was when my set got rivered by the villain’s 2 pair when he rivered a flush.
Driving home on the 15 was the worst case of jank ever! I was stopped by CHP and the fool gave me a ticket for 78. Yes, I was speeding considering the limit is 70. Yes, other fools were passing me up but of course he has to stop me. C’mon! How fast can a 115 horsepower Honda Civic really go?! I think my Decepticon sticker just attracts Blue. Anyway, fine! Gimme my dumb ass ticket cuz it’s almost the end of the month and I know you have a quota to meet! Dumb ass CHP! They’re all slaves to Arnold now that the Governator has demanded more tickets issued. Start with your dumb ass wife getting caught on TMZ talking on her cell phone…twice!
Anyway, here is where I get really janked…about 10 miles after I get my ticket, the same dumb ass CHP officer is behind me in the fast lane and I’m going exactly his recommended 70 mph limit. He flashes his headlights at me to move over so he can pass me up cuz now I’m going too slow!!! OMG!! Sure enough, Decepticivic moves over to the next lane and Mr. Officer passes me up real fast. I actually laughed cuz I realized the fool just janked me up without even knowing it. But he made a big mistake for picking on LimShady!!! No one screws LimShady and gets away with it. So, I truly believe Mr. CHP just cursed himself and sooner or later, the next gangsta he stops is going to put a cap in his dumb ass cuz no gangsta is gonna accept what happened to me today. Mr. CHP is just asking for a 187.

I’ve been grinding like a fool trying to qualify for Monte Carlo. This past weekend I got janked with 99 vs QJ. Only 7 fools away from winning a seat too. So brutal. Oh well, next weekend. Been playing a bunch of sit-n-gos too and $1/$2 cash games. Also played a tourney to waste an hour away…10 hours later, I placed 15th of 355 and thought to myself did I really just play for 10 hours to win $67? Why am I so jank?
Gonna head to Vegas this weekend to meet up with the pals. Justin and Anita got their ping pong table today so when I get back from Vegas I’m gonna show em how it’s done. The first bet is high tea. I love high tea. Scones and finger sandwiches. Some good sheeeet! Gonna ping and pong my way to a free tea…sweet!
I am debating whether or not I should sign up for Netflix. Everyone I know is a member. My concern is once I sign up, I won’t use it. But then again, maybe I will. I have so many flix to catch up on. And I guess I can stream stuff on my 360 too if I sign up. That’s what I find myself doing nowadays. After the 9-5, I come home, eat a quick dinner, and either play online or watch tv. Too tired to do anything else. Man, corporate America is already wearing me out again. Been on the job for more than 30 days now and I realize now why I left corporate America to begin with. It really sucks. Nothing like being your own boss. My job is fine and my boss is the greatest, but it’s the political machine within each company that really irks me. All I’m waiting for is one nice score and I’ll be my own boss again. Maybe this summer at the Rio? That would be nice.
I am tempted to go back home to the muthaland in the Fall for a week or so. I miss Singapore a lot. It’s the greatest city in the world for food!!! My sister and nephew will be going and I really wanna go. I just hope BFF still plans on celebrating her birthday in the Maldives and we can hit both places!!! That would be so awesome!!! Back to Singapore and Bali and throw in the Maldives!! Sweet!! Life is good. As a matter of fact, a year ago today, BFF and I were in Asia…started off in Hong Kong, then Singapore, then Phuket, then Bali…so much fun!!! HK and Phuket were ok, but Singapore and Bali we will never forget. If y’all ever get the chance, do visit!!!
I have yet to touch European soil. One day. Hopefully. Trekked throughout Asia but have yet to venture across the Atlantic. So I find myself grinding like a fool to find my way to Monte Carlo. God willing, I guess.
I haven’t played Uncharted 2 for a while and still stuck on Chapter 9. But now with the release of Heavy Rain for the PS3, I am torn. This is my kind of game and I know if I buy it, I will continue to ignore Uncharted, ha! So I guess I will wait…price drop will be good too. Anyway, time for bed. It’s a school, uh, I mean a work night.
